Tips for Newbie Competitive Ballroom Dancers

Preparing for your first ballroom competition can be a very stressful time. In order to alleviate some of that unnecessary stress, it is important to prepare ahead of time. Try out the following tips when preparing for competition.

• Start a checklist at least a week before your competition of all the things you need to make sure you bring. It is essential to begin this as early as possible so that you can add to it when something else crosses your mind.

• Put together an emergency sewing kit just in case your costume needs a little repair between dances.

• If you plan on using fake eyelashes, make sure you bring extra eyelash glue. It is best to be prepared.

• If you decide to fore go your glasses and wear contacts, remember to bring eye drops. You may even want to take them out between long waiting periods in order to give your eyes a little break.

• Bring extra dance shoes. This way, it won’t be a complete disaster if your heel breaks.

• Try to get a lot of sleep beginning a few days prior to the competition. Your best bet is to be fully rested so that you can perform to the best of your ability.

• The day of your competition, make sure to eat something for breakfast. I know this is easier said than done. The nerves alone can make your stomach do cartwheels, but this will really add to your energy levels. And once those nerves wear off, you’ll be glad your stomach isn’t growling to high heaven.

• If you aren’t able to get the appropriate sleep and you don’t think you have enough energy to get through the competition, try Zantrex3. This will help with your energy levels. This might be the boost you need to get through that long arduous day of competing.

• Make sure you warm-up appropriately. You definitely don’t want to strain any muscles while competing.

• Bring slippers to wear in between dancing. Your feet will thank you for it later.

• Drink lots of water. It is crucial that you stay hydrated throughout the day. This will also help with your energy levels.

• Most important of all is to have fun. Enjoy yourself.
